Frequently Asked Questions

Species, farming, freezing and export terms — what buyers ask us most.

Who is HTXH?

HTXH (Direct Fish Supply) is a seafood producer and exporter based in Guangdong, China, with 43 years of operating history in aquaculture and fisheries. We own the farm, the processing line, the cold store and the export paperwork, so farming, processing and shipping stay inside one company.

What does "integrated" mean in seafood supply?

Most suppliers do one of three jobs - farm the fish, process it, or trade it. HTXH does all three. Five stages - cage farming, harvest, primary processing, freezing and cold storage, and export - are handled in-house, with no third-party trader between the cage and your container.

What seafood does HTXH supply?

We export frozen whole fish from Guangdong, China. Freshwater species: tilapia and red pomfret. Seawater species: gilthead seabream, crimson seabream, red seabream, red drum and Miichthys miiuy, the Chinese drum. The two groups are listed separately on our products page.

Is your fish farmed or wild-caught?

Most species are raised at our own farm in Raoping, Chaozhou. Frozen whole Miichthys miiuy is wild-caught, and red drum is available farmed or wild-caught. Tell us the species you need and we confirm the source in the quotation.

Where are the cages, the processing plant and the loading port?

The cage site sits in open coastal water at Raoping, Chaozhou, Guangdong, China. The processing plant, the cold store and the container loading point share one site at Zhelin Wharf, Raoping County. The sales office is at Room 719, Building A, Tizhi Creative Park, Bao'an District, Shenzhen, Guangdong.

Can you trace a carton back to the cage it came from?

Yes. Every carton carries a lot number and a harvest date, and links back to the cage and the harvest day it came from. Ask for the harvest date and the lot number, and where the fish were processed - the chain of custody is short enough to check.

Why do you freeze at source instead of shipping live fish?

Live transport keeps fish alive in oxygenated tanks, which means crowding, injury and stress - and the trade relies on anaesthetics and sedatives to control mortality. We do not ship live. Our fish are bled, gutted and frozen at the point of harvest, so nothing in the process requires an anaesthetic.

Do you use anaesthetics or sedatives?

No. Anaesthetics exist to keep fish alive through transport. Our fish are lifted from the cage, bled and processed on site the same day, so no sedative is part of our process at any stage.

What happens to the fish between harvest and freezing?

It is one working day. The fish are lifted from the cage, bled, gutted, washed and rapidly chilled on the processing line, then frozen and held at -18 °C or below. The cold chain starts at harvest, not on arrival at the destination.

How is the fish frozen, glazed and packed?

Individually quick frozen (IQF), or block frozen on request, at -18 °C or below, with a 24-month shelf life. Glazing is 10% or 20% as standard and can be customised, including a 0% ice glaze. Inner packing is a food-grade plastic bag; the outer is a 10 kg net carton. 15 kg and 20 kg cartons, and OEM/ODM branding, are available subject to MOQ.

Is frozen fish less fresh than live fish?

They are different products, not different grades. A live fish reaches the buyer after its final hours in transport stress. A fish frozen at source is processed on the day it is harvested and stays at -18 °C or below from that point onward.

What is "purging", and do your fish need it?

Purging means holding farmed fish in clean flowing water without feed for days to weeks, so they metabolise feed residue and off-flavour compounds such as geosmin and 2-MIB. It is a corrective step for enclosed ponds and tank systems, where organic matter accumulates. Our fish grow in open sea cages with continuous water exchange, so no post-harvest holding period is applied.

Does that mean your fish are guaranteed free of off-flavour?

No, and any supplier who guarantees that is overstating. It means the conditions that concentrate these compounds in enclosed systems are not present, and the corrective step those systems depend on is not part of our chain.

Does purging remove antibiotics or heavy metals?

Purging addresses off-flavour compounds and gut contents. It is not a decontamination step and should not be presented as one - it does not remove antibiotics or heavy metals. Its role is sensory and metabolic.

What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ)?

MOQ depends on the species. Frozen whole tilapia starts at 20 metric tons (MT) per order. Customised glazing, size grading and packaging are subject to MOQ - send us the species and the destination port and we confirm the MOQ in writing.

What are the payment terms?

20% T/T in advance, with the balance against a copy of the Bill of Lading.

Which ports do you ship from, and do you quote FOB or CIF?

Both FOB and CIF. We load from major Chinese ports including Shanghai, Shenzhen and Guangzhou, and there are weekly sailings from Zhelin Port, Chaozhou. Our main markets are Europe, Africa and South East Asia.

How long does production and shipping take?

Production runs 15-20 days after we receive the deposit, depending on order quantity and the production schedule. Export clearance is handled in-house, and customs clearance is AEO-certified for the EU, Africa, Japan, Korea and ASEAN.

How do I get a quote?

Send the species, size grade, packing, quantity and destination port to Richeal (Business Director) or Sam (Supply Chain Director) - Tel, WhatsApp, WeChat or email, all listed on our Contact page. Specs, sizes, packing and FOB / CIF prices come back within 24 hours.
